“And will ye pollute me among my people for handfuls of barley and for pieces of bread, to slay the souls that should not die, and to save the souls alive that should not live, by your lying to my people that hear your lies? ” – Eze 13:19
I am no preacher, but, am a sinner and living in this world in HIS mercy. For a sinner like me too, when I read “The Holy Bible” God gave me the following verses in the context of “Lucre and Filthy Lucre” from the Book of Life (The Holy Bible-King James Version).
Lucre Means -
I have used a tool “WordWeb” (it is free) and it gives the meaning as :
1. Informal term for money 2. The excess of revenues over outlays in a given period of time. Synonyms : Boodle, bread, cabbage, clams, dinero, dough, earnings, gelt, kale, lettuce, loot, moola, moolah, net, net income, net profit, pelt, profit, profits, scratch, shekels, simoleons, sugar, wampum.
1Sa-1. And it came to pass, when Samuel was old, that he made his sons judges over Israel.
1Sa-2. Now the name of his firstborn was Joel; and the name of his second, Abiah: they were judges in Beersheba.
1Sa-8:3 And his sons walked not in his ways, but turned aside after lucre, and took bribes, and perverted judgment.
1Ti-3:2 A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, vigilant, sober, of good behaviour, given to hospitality, apt to teach;
1Ti-3:3 Not given to wine, no striker, not greedy of filthy lucre; but patient, not a brawler, not covetous;
4. One that ruleth well his own house, having his children in subjection with all gravity;
5. (For if a man know not how to rule his own house, how shall he take care of the church of God?)
6. Not a novice, lest being lifted up with pride he fall into the condemnation of the devil.
1Ti-3:8 Likewise must the deacons be grave, not doubletongued, not given to much wine, not greedy of filthy lucre;
9. Holding the mystery of the faith in a pure conscience.
Tit-1:7 For a bishop must be blameless, as the steward of God; not selfwilled, not soon angry, not given to wine, no striker, not given to filthy lucre;
8. But a lover of hospitality, a lover of good men, sober, just, holy, temperate;
9. Holding fast the faithful word as he hath been taught, that he may be able by sound doctrine both to exhort and to convince the gainsayers.
Tit-1:11 Whose mouths must be stopped, who subvert whole houses, teaching things which they ought not, for filthy lucre’s sake.
1Pe-5:2 Feed the flock of God which is among you, taking the oversight thereof, not by constraint, but willingly; not for filthy lucre, but of a ready mind;
3. Neither as being lords over God’s heritage, but being ensamples to the flock.
