I am no preacher, but, am a prime sinner and living in this world in HIS mercy. For a sinner like me too, when I read “The Holy Bible” KJV, the following verses were given in the context of “Gates”. 

Mat 16:18 And I say also unto thee,
That thou art Peter,
and upon this rock I will build my church;
and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.

Act 9:24 But their laying await was known of Saul.

Act 14:13 Then the priest of Jupiter,
which was before their city, brought oxen
and garlands unto the gates,
and would have done sacrifice with the people.

Rev 21:12 And had a wall great and high,
and had twelve gates,
and at the gates twelve angels,
and names written thereon,
which are the names of the twelve tribes
of the children of Israel:

Rev 21:13 On the east three gates;
on the north three gates;
on the south three gates;
and on the west three gates.

that they may have right to the tree of life,
and may enter in through the gates into the city.
