For ye know how that afterward,
when he would have inherited the blessing,
he was rejected:
for he found no place of repentance,
though he sought it carefully with tears. – Hebrews 12:17

I am no preacher, but, am a prime sinner and living in this world in HIS mercy. For a sinner like me too, when I read “The Holy Bible” KJV, the following verses were given in the context of “afterward” from the New Testament.
Matthew 4:2 And when he had fasted
forty days and forty nights,
he was afterward an hungred.
Matthew 21:29 He answered and said, I will not:
but afterward he repented,
and went.
Matthew 21:32 For John came unto you
in the way of righteousness,
and ye believed him not:
but the publicans and the harlots believed him:
and ye, when ye had seen it,
repented not afterward,
that ye might believe him.
Matthew 25:11 Afterward came also the other virgins,
saying, Lord, Lord, open to us.
Mark 4:17 And have no root in themselves,
and so endure but for a time:
afterward, when affliction or persecution ariseth
for the word’s sake,
immediately they are offended.
Mark 16:14 Afterward he appeared
unto the eleven as they sat at meat,
and upbraided them with their unbelief
and hardness of heart,
because they believed not them
which had seen him after he was risen.
Luke 4:2 Being forty days tempted of the devil.
And in those days he did eat nothing:
and when they were ended,
he afterward hungered.
Luke 8:1 And it came to pass afterward,
that he went throughout every city and village,
preaching and shewing
the glad tidings of the kingdom of God:
and the twelve were with him,
Luke 17:8 And will not rather say unto him,
Make ready wherewith I may sup,
and gird thyself,
and serve me, till I have eaten and drunken;
and afterward thou shalt eat and drink?
Luke 18:4 And he would not for a while:
but afterward he said within himself,
Though I fear not God,
nor regard man;
5. Yet because this widow troubleth me,
I will avenge her,
lest by her continual coming
she weary me.
John 5:14 Afterward Jesus findeth him in the temple,
and said unto him, Behold,
thou art made whole:
sin no more,
lest a worse thing come unto thee.
John 13:36 Simon Peter said unto him, Lord, whither goest thou?
Jesus answered him, Whither I go,
thou canst not follow me now;
but thou shalt follow me afterwards.
Acts 13:21 And afterward they desired a king:
and God gave unto them Saul the son of Cis,
a man of the tribe of Benjamin,
by the space of forty years.
1 Corinthians 15:23 But every man in his own order:
Christ the firstfruits;
afterward they that are Christ’s at his coming.
1 Corinthians 15:46 Howbeit that was not first
which is spiritual,
but that which is natural;
and afterward that which is spiritual.
47. The first man is of the earth, earthy:
the second man is the Lord from heaven.
Galatians 1:21 Afterwards I came
into the regions of Syria and Cilicia;
22. And was unknown by face
unto the churches of Judaea
which were in Christ:
23. But they had heard only,
That he which persecuted us
in times past now preacheth the faith
which once he destroyed.
Galatians 3:23 But before faith came,
we were kept under the law,
shut up unto the faith
which should afterwards be revealed.
Hebrews 4:8 For if Jesus had given them rest,
then would he not afterward
have spoken of another day.
Hebrews 12:11 Now no chastening for the present
seemeth to be joyous, but grievous:
nevertheless afterward it yieldeth
the peaceable fruit of righteousness
unto them which are exercised thereby.
Hebrews 12:17 For ye know how that afterward,
when he would have inherited the blessing,
he was rejected:
for he found no place of repentance,
though he sought it carefully with tears.
Jude 1:5 I will therefore put you in remembrance,
though ye once knew this,
how that the Lord,
having saved the people
out of the land of Egypt,
afterward destroyed them that believed not.
